Australian Wines: Chardonnay White Wine and Shiraz Red Wine

Australian WinesIntroduction:

Australia is one of the world’s leading producers of wine, in fact there are well over 420,000 acres of wildly varying terrain dedicated to wine growing in the country that collectively produce almost 1.5 billion bottles of wine for the worldwide wine market every year. There are three major wine regions to consider; South Eastern Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. Australia’s most famous and most widely produced wines are its white Chardonnay and red Shiraz; these are the two varietals which we include in our New World Australian wine range, offering great quality Australian wines at an amazingly affordable price.

Where exactly are our Australian wines from?

Both of our Australian wines, the white Chardonnay and the red Shiraz, are from the South Eastern Australia wine region. This region covers the states of New South Wales, Tasmania, Victoria and parts of Queensland and South Australia. The majority of the wine producing terrain is situated along the coastal regions where cooling sea breezes allow grape varieties such as our Shiraz and Chardonnay, to grow strongly and to thrive.

What makes Australian Wines Unique?

The very first wine grape vines were planted in Australia in 1788 and were brought over from South Africa, as Australia itself had no native grape vines. 230 years later, today, Australia’s wine industry is one of the most technologically advanced and forward-thinking in the world and its success is unrivalled by many wine producing countries. Australia is renowned for its high quality fresh, fruity red and white wines such as our Shiraz and Chardonnay.

Australian ChardonnayOur Australian Chardonnay

Our Australian Chardonnay is tropical and smooth due to its coastal growing climate, which allows cooling sea breezes to nurture the grape. It has flashes of acidity which round off to a lengthy finish reflecting the complexity of the blend. Its fruitiness makes it a great match with fish, turkey and light cream-based sauces.

What temperature should our Australian Chardonnay be served at?

To ensure you experience the best characteristics of the wine, this Chardonnay is best served chilled (7-10 °C).  Most refrigerators are set to a temperature of 1-4 °C, therefore, we wouldn’t recommend leaving it in the fridge for longer than 2 hours before serving it.

Is it okay to chill a bottle that’s been taken out of the fridge, has been opened and allowed to come to room temperature?

Sure. It may not be ideal, but it won’t do much harm either. We recommend putting the bottle back into the fridge after it’s been opened. In case you’d like to serve some more glasses you could take it out again. This keeps the wine at its freshest.

How long will an open bottle of our Australian Chardonnay Wine last?

Once opened, this wine will begin to lose its intensity in a matter of a few days. It will last to about 3-4 days. For any wine not consumed, store in the fridge after replacing the screw cap, this will extend the life of the wine by a few days.

How should I store this Australian Chardonnay?

Due to its screwcap, the wine will be fine stored standing up. We recommend keeping it away from any bright light (both natural and artificial) and keep at a cool and constant temperature, ideally between 10-15 °C).

Should I decant this wine?

You don’t need to decant this wine, but any wine can be decanted. The reason for decanting is to aerate the wine. A lot of young wines can be tight or closed on the nose or palate. By slowly pouring the wine into the decanter it takes in oxygen which helps to open up the aromas and flavours.

Has this Australian Chardonnay won any awards for quality?

Yes, our Australian Chardonnay has won the following awards: 2018 International Wine Challenge (Commended), 2017 Decanter World Wine Awards (Commended) and a 2015 International Wine & Spirits Competition (Bronze Medal).
