RECIPE: Our Red Wine Beef Burger

Love a good burger? So do we. However, we bet you've never had a burger like this before. Our Red Wine Beef Burger has our Italian Cabernet Sauvignon mixed into the patty, as well as drizzled on top in a gorgeous syrup reduction. The result is a tender, juicy burger that has all the rich flavours that make our Cab Sav such a winner with our customers.


  • 2 cups of Premier Estates Italian Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 lb minced beef
  • A pinch of salt
  • Freshly ground pepper
  • A few dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 medium tomato
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Olive oil
  • 4 burger buns
  • A few slices of your favourite cheese (we used cheddar but blue cheese or Parmesan works a treat too)



1. Combine the wine and sugar in a frying pan or saucepan. Stir until the sugar dissolves

2. Let this mixture boil and reduce until there is about 5 tbsp left. Once it has reduced to this point, take it off the heat, empty it into a jug or bowl and leave to cool at room temperature

3. Break up the minced meat and season with salt, pepper and a few dashes of Worchestershire sauce

4. Add ½ of the red wine reduction and mix well. The meat mixture will turn a lovely dark red/purple colour

5. Form the mixture into 4 patties and set aside

6. Add olive oil to a frying pan and cook the burgers to your desired doneness

7. Top with slices of cheese whilst still in the pan but off the heat

8. Lightly toast the sliced burger buns and add lettuce leaves and tomato to the base. Slide the burgers with the cheese on top of this and drizzle the remaining wine reduction over everything, before places the top bun on it

9. Serve with a glass of Italian Cabernet Sauvignon
